Artist Statement
Amanda is a fine artist based in Hamilton Ontario. She works with multiple mediums and has a particular affinity for inks. Having lived most of her life in urban centers, she has developed a deep love of nature, especially birds, and will often combine living things with inorganic subjects to tell stories with symbolic meaning. Her main body of work is made up of surreal, sometimes unsettling images that explore themes of spirituality, trauma, mental illness, and death. She sees her artistic practice as a way to make space for conversations surrounding traumatic experience and the path to wellness, and considers the chance to connect with others through her work, whether through shared experience, emotional resonance or revelation, a very meaningful and significant privilege.
